We have all been blessed with skills and abilities and interests. Thanks be to God! No matter what we’ve been blessed with, there is a place here to share what God has given so freely! Please take a moment to identify the items with which you (or any members of your family) would like to lend a hand.

Questions about time commitment, possible training or any other concerns may be answered by calling the office at 549-4141. We’ve grouped these items according to the frequency of need. 

Frequency of commitment:
Weekly :

1. Gather weekly for worship

2. Come to Sunday classes (Sept. – May)

3. Deliver recordings of Sunday Services to home-bound

4. Help assemble worship bulletins

5. Help make quilts for Lutheran World Relief - Thursdays @ 9. Don’t sew? You can tie knots.

6. Help teach Sunday School classes (Sept. – May)

7. Lead/participate in weekly book/Bible study

8. Men ’s Bible study breakfasts

9. Operate Risograph to duplicate worship materials

10. Participate in women’s Bible studies-day & time is determined by group

11. Serve as a Sunday School “Shepherd” for 1st - 6th graders

12. Sing in Senior Choir (Sept. -May)

13. Women of Spirit book study group (WOS)

 

Monthly:

14. First Mondays Bible study

15. Meet with other Women of the ELCA at St. Paul for Bible Study on the first Thursday afternoon of most months

16. Usher (one Sunday/month - training is provided)

 

Quarterly-ish (or maybe every other quarter, or once or twice a year–depending on how many people sign-up):

17. Acolyte - 2nd -6th graders-light candles at worship services

18. Assisting Minister singing or non-singing training is provided

19. Basket Holder during communion

20. Bake communion bread -- we have recipes

21. Cantor

22. Communion set-up

23. Communion clean-up

24. Greet people at Sunday worship

25. Help with children’s Thursday AfterSchool program

26. Help transport youth to AfterSchool activities

27. Intercessory prayer leader-write and offer prayers of the people - training is provided

28. Kitchen cleaning (in groups of 3-4) - a different crew cleans each month

29. Lay Reader (reads lessons at worship)

30. Schedule Greeters

31. Schedule Lay Readers

32. Schedule Ushers

33. Schedule Tape Ministry crew

34. Schedule kitchen clean-up crews

35. Serve on a Worship Planning Team

During the Advent and Christmas Season:

44. Make cookies, candy for Christmas plates for homebound & bereaved

45. Help assemble Christmas plates

Spring/Summer Needs:

47. Assemble/pack Lutheran World Relief kits, spring

48. Assist with "Back to School" clothing project, summer

49. Organize/Participate on Softball Team (co-ed), early spring

50. Participate in the outdoor Earth Day clean-up, spring

51. Snow removal (weekends & holidays) – spring, winter, fall, summer (this is Montana....)

52. Yard work such as: lawn edging, weeding flower beds, attending to the outdoor planters, spring summer, & fall

53. Another idea? Want to start something new?

 

Needed at Various Times Throughout the Year:

54. Adopt a bathroom or another room in the building to redecorate/refurbish

55. Answer office phone

56. Assist with Habitat For Humanity projects

57. Assist with youth activities for elementary-ages

58. Assist as chaperone on high school youth trips

59. Assist with activities for middle school-ages

60. Bake bread item for Bread Ministry (gifts given to visitors)

61. Caring Friend - flexible time commitment and varied needs (i.e., fix a meal for new parents or for a bereaved family, provide occasional transportation for a non-driver

62. “Church" Grandmas & Grandpas to meet with someone who needs an on-site visit

63. Coordinate special receptions - after concerts or programs, for example

64. Deliver altar flowers following Sunday worship

65. Deliver Bread Ministry bread items to guests of the congregation

66. Donate food for special events (receptions, etc.)

67. Espresso Cart Assistant

68. Help with special carpentry/painting projects

69. Help organize outreach events

70. Help serve @ special events, i.e., funeral receptions

71. Help with offering count (Monday mornings)

72. Help with special cleaning projects (indoors)

73. Help with special cleaning projects (outdoors)

74. Help with work day / clean up day in spring or fall

75. Host a Sunday coffee hour

76. House visitors (such as college choir members)

77. Ironing church items (paraments, banners, etc.)

78. Knit a prayer shawl

79. Laundering church items such as paraments (some need to be hand washed & rolled), choir robes, acolyte robes, table linens & napkins

80. Library updating

81. Mending

82. Nursery assistant- unpaid volunteer position

83. Office help (stuff envelopes, assemble annual report, collate newsletter)

84. Operate camcorder

85. Organize a potluck

86. Participate in Intercessory Prayer group

87. Pick up items for rummage sales

88. Play piano (occasionally, for choir rehearsal or worship, for example)

89. Play other instrument

90. Prayer Partner, short-term, for a Sunday School Student

91. Serve as Confirmation mentor/spiritual sponsor

92. Serve communion for homebound - training provided

93. Sewing (sometimes straight lines, sometimes not!)

94. “Shepherd” new members to help them get to know and be involved in church

95. Simple data entry on a computer in the office

96. Sing vocal solos or sing with the Men of St. Paul

97. Tackle a Community Benevolence project (e.g., organize, prepare & serve a Sunday Poverello dinner, organize a Food Drive for the Food Bank or Poverello Center--volunteers would be recruited to help with these projects)

98. Type newsletter articles

99. Usher Substitute - fill-in as needed

100. Visual Arts and Banners (visioning, creating, changing)

101. Women's Singing Group - sings occasionally

Longer-term Commitments:

104. Stephen Ministry Care Giver - 50 hours training is provided; two year commitment of time with care receiver
